One-sentence summary: Learn Your Money is a local-first app for your financial inputs. Your financial inputs stay in this browser and are not sent to our servers. Optional AI features are currently disabled, so nothing you enter is sent to any AI provider. We have no ability to see, share, sell, or lose your financial inputs.

1. What we collect

Almost nothing — and no personal financial data.

Learn Your Money is a static-file web app. It runs entirely inside your browser. Your personal financial inputs stay in your browser and are not sent to our servers. The site is hosted on Cloudflare and uses Plausible Analytics (privacy-friendly, no cookies, no personal data) to count anonymous page visits — only the page viewed, country, device type, and referrer. Some public content (compensation catalogs) and the feedback form (if you choose to send feedback) use a hosted database, but your financial inputs are never stored or synced there. Calculator inputs and form values are stored locally in your browser and are not transmitted to our servers.

Ask Lee has been retired. Learn Your Money no longer offers a chat assistant. To find a tool, calculator, guide, or resource, use Search (the 🔍 button in the top bar, or press ⌘K / "/").

No login, no account. Search and the tools are free and work without signing in or connecting any account.
Search runs in your browser. Search matches your query against the site's own catalog of tools and guides on your device. Your search text is not sent to our servers.
No outside AI. Search and Learn Your Money's tools run entirely on the site's own deterministic logic. Nothing you type is sent to any external AI service (see "AI providers: none" in Section 3).
Education, not advice. Search points you to the calculators and guides that do the math; it never tells you what to do.

2. Where your data lives

Every number, name, account, and scenario you enter is stored in your browser's localStorage. It is not transmitted to our servers.

It persists until you clear it. Saved planning data stays in this browser profile after you close the tab, close the browser, or restart your computer. It is not synced to other browsers, profiles, or devices.
Clearing only your browser's cache may not remove locally saved planning data, because cache and site storage are different browser mechanisms. To remove the data through browser settings, clear this site's cookies/site data — not only cached images and files (the exact menu wording varies by browser). The most reliable in-app method is "Clear planning data & start over" in the sidebar.
If you open the app on a different device, your data is NOT there automatically.
To move data, use "Backup & Restore" (sidebar) — saves a .json file you control.

3. Third-party services

The app makes the following network calls. We have NO ability to add others without you noticing — you can read every line of the source code.

Chart.js library (self-hosted on learnyourmoney.org, loaded the first time you view a graph, then cached): provides graph rendering. No data sent.
AI providers: none. Optional AI features are currently disabled. No API key is stored in your browser and no request is sent to any AI provider. If optional AI features are enabled in the future, they will be off by default and this policy will describe exactly what is sent before they can send anything.
Plausible Analytics — anonymous page-visit counts only (Section 4).
Hosted database (Supabase) — public content catalogs and the feedback form if you choose to send feedback. Never your calculator inputs.
Newsletter sign-up (Buttondown) — only if you type your email address into the "New tools, when they're ready" form on the Travel Rewards Card Finder page and press Subscribe. That form sends the email address you entered — and nothing else; never your calculator inputs — to Buttondown, the newsletter service, in a new tab governed by Buttondown's own policy. If you never submit that form, nothing is sent to Buttondown.
Hosting (Cloudflare) — serves the site's files.
Outbound links (for example the support page or The Pension Trader) leave this site and are governed by those sites' own policies.

4. Cookies, tracking, analytics

Zero cookies. We use Plausible Analytics for anonymous page-visit counts only — no cookies, no cross-site tracking, no Google Analytics, Mixpanel, Segment, Posthog, or advertising pixels. Plausible records page URL, country, device type, and referrer. Your entered data is stored locally in your browser and not transmitted to our servers.

5. Children

This app is intended for adults managing their own finances. It is not directed at children under 13, so it complies with COPPA by design.

6. Your rights

Because your financial inputs aren't stored on a server, there's no "delete request" to make for them. You delete the data by:

Clicking "Clear planning data & start over" in the sidebar. This removes financial plans, saved scenarios, profiles, reports, and locally saved planning inputs from this browser. It intentionally keeps a few non-planning items — your display theme, your Terms acceptance, and internal flags — so it does not clear every key this site stores.
Clearing this site's data in your browser settings (this removes everything, including your display settings and Terms acceptance).
Closing the tab or the browser does not delete saved planning data. A backup file you export only restores into a browser where you import it.

7. Security

Local storage is protected by your operating system's user account security. Anyone with physical access to your unlocked computer can read it. For high-sensitivity scenarios, use a dedicated browser profile or run on an encrypted disk.

8. Disclaimer

This app is an educational tool. Calculations are estimates based on data YOU input. Tax law and state regulations change frequently. We do not guarantee the accuracy of any number, projection, or recommendation. Always consult a certified CPA or tax attorney to validate before acting. We are not responsible for errors in figures you input or for tax, legal, or financial decisions you make based on the app's output. See full Terms & Disclaimer at terms.html.

9. Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated to reflect changes in the app. The "Last updated" date will change accordingly. Material changes will be flagged in-app.

Plain English version of this policy: We don't have your financial data. We can't see it. We can't lose it. We can't sell it. We can't even back it up for you. The trade-off is: you're responsible for backing it up. That's the deal.
