Important Disclaimers

Last reviewed:

1. We Are Not a Law Firm, CPA Firm, RIA, Broker-Dealer, or Insurance Agent

Learn Your Money is a software publisher. We are not:

We are not licensed to provide any of the services listed above and we do not hold ourselves out as providing them.

2. Educational Information Only — Not Personalized Advice

Every calculation, projection, recommendation, scenario, educational organizer content, AI-generated output, or written content produced by the Service is general educational information. It is NOT:

Your use of the Service does not establish any professional advisory relationship of any kind.

3. You Must Consult Licensed Professionals

Before relying on ANY output of the Service to take real-world action, you must independently consult a qualified, licensed professional in your state:

The cost of professional review is almost always smaller than the cost of acting on incorrect information.

4. Numbers and Outputs Are Estimates Only

Federal, state, and local tax constants change every year and sometimes mid-year. Tax law is interpreted differently by different jurisdictions and may be retroactively modified by Congress or state legislatures. The Service uses constants and formulas based on published guidance as of the version date; we do not warrant that the constants reflect current law on the day you use the Service.

Investment-return assumptions, longevity assumptions, inflation assumptions, and any forward-looking projection are not predictions. Past performance does not guarantee future results. Monte Carlo simulations express probability distributions, not certainties.

All output is mathematically derived from numbers you input. We do not verify, audit, or guarantee the accuracy of any input. Incorrect inputs produce incorrect outputs.

5. Trust and Estate Information

Learn Your Money does not create legal documents. Trust and estate pages are educational organizers to help families gather information and prepare better questions for a licensed estate attorney.

Trust and estate information and organizer content produced by the Service is general educational information only. It is not legal advice, does not constitute the practice of law, and creates no attorney–client relationship with you. Estate law varies dramatically by state (community-property rules, statutory POA forms, slayer statutes, elective-share rules, witness requirements, self-proving affidavit format, and many other state-specific issues), and your situation may include considerations not addressed by general educational content.

You must engage a licensed estate-planning attorney in your state to advise on your situation. We are not providing legal document-preparation services. The Service does not constitute the unauthorized practice of law.

6. Special Needs Trusts and Means-Tested Benefits

Improper Special Needs Trust (SNT) structure can disqualify a beneficiary from SSI, Medicaid, and other means-tested benefits. Self-settled / first-party SNTs under 42 U.S.C. § 1396p(d)(4)(A) have entirely different rules from third-party SNTs and require Medicaid-payback provisions. The Service does not create SNT documents; SNT planning involves highly state-specific and benefits-sensitive considerations that go beyond general educational content. SNT planning must be done by an attorney certified by the Special Needs Alliance or the Academy of Special Needs Planners.

7. AI Features

The AI scenario builder uses the Anthropic Claude API with an API key supplied by you. Large-language-model output is non-deterministic, may contain factual errors ("hallucinations"), may not reflect current tax or legal authority, and is not legal, tax, or financial advice. You agree to manually review all AI output before applying it, saving it, or acting on it. We are not responsible for the content of AI output.

8. Community Forum

Posts and replies in the Community Forum are written by anonymous users. Forum content is NOT vetted by Company. Other users are not licensed professionals (unless they identify themselves as such, in which case their statements still do not establish a professional relationship with you). Do not treat forum content as advice. Always verify any tip, calculation, or strategy with a licensed professional in your state before acting.

9. Forward-Looking Statements

Any retirement projection, Monte Carlo simulation, college-cost projection, or other multi-year forward-looking analysis depends on assumptions about future market returns, inflation, tax law, and life expectancy that may not materialize. Actual results may differ materially. Past performance is not indicative of future results.

10. State-Specific Variation

U.S. tax, estate, marital-property, creditor-protection, and consumer-protection law varies substantially by state. The Service computes state-level numbers based on published state tax tables but does not address state-specific exemptions, credits, conformity to federal law (which varies), or non-tax legal issues. Community-property states (AZ, CA, ID, LA, NV, NM, TX, WA, WI) have rules that differ materially from common-law states.

11. No Guarantees About IRS or State Tax Authority Treatment

We do not warrant that figures computed by the Service will match your actual filed tax return, your tax preparer's computation, or the IRS's or state taxing authority's determination. We are not responsible for IRS or state penalties, interest, audit costs, or under- or over-payment of tax.

12. Affiliations and Independence

Learn Your Money is an independent product. We are NOT affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by:

Any third-party trademarks referenced are the property of their respective owners and are used for descriptive purposes under nominative fair use.

13. Geographic Scope

The Service is designed for U.S. residents only. It does not address non-U.S. tax, estate, privacy, or financial law. Non-U.S. residents may not be able to lawfully use the Service in their jurisdiction. The Service does not comply with GDPR, UK DPA, PIPEDA, or similar non-U.S. data-protection regimes.
